Catie + Chris’ Bright and Beautiful Fall Wedding in Blue

We love Catie’s choice of blue for her fall wedding day. The soft September light made her and her bridesmaid’s beautiful bouquets of wildflowers and roses sing with color. The reception was held at The View in Mount Adams which was the perfect place for the airy vibe of the wedding. Photography by Chapel Lane Photography unless otherwise noted.

Tell us a little about you and Chris.

Chris and I have been together since we were 19 years old. Our relationship has survived four years of long-distance, four years of pharmacy school, three years of law school, two years of pharmacy residency, and months of long job searches. Chris is now a lawyer in Kenton County and I am a pharmacist at the VA Hospital in Cincinnati. We love good food and traveling to new places!

How did you and Chris meet? What were your first impressions of each other?

Chris and I met through my brothers and also through mutual friends. I am a triplet and Chris went to high school with two of my brothers. Also, Chris's best friends from grade school and high school were actually my best guy friends in high school. We met once during junior year of high school but did not exactly hit it off. It wasn't until we started hanging out more after the first year of college that we became better friends and eventually started dating.

How was your personal style reflected in your wedding day?

I have always wanted a more traditional wedding and I love bright, fun colors. Poeme did such an amazing job reflecting my personal style throughout my wedding stationery. My invitations definitely had a more traditional/classy look to them, but then our engagement pictures, seating chart, table numbers, etc. were more bright and colorful.

Kristen at Poeme was honestly a magician when it came to hearing my ideas and turning them into a reality. My style was also reflected in the color of my bridesmaid dresses; from the beginning, I knew that I wanted a bright blue that would complement the white interior of the venue.

Finally, the flowers from Secret Garden took my breath away. They honestly tied everything together and gave me the bright, fun, elegant wedding that I have always dreamed of!

Tell us about the proposal.

I was living in Lexington at the time and Chris came down for the weekend to celebrate our 7 year anniversary. I had a small feeling he might propose that weekend since we had been dating so long and were both finally done with law school and pharmacy school. However, no proposal Friday night and no proposal Saturday night left me feeling pretty upset on Sunday morning. I remember texting my friends saying I guess it’s not happening after all. However, Chris and I then went out to dinner Sunday night and while we were gone, Chris had his friends come to my apartment and fill it with candles and roses. When we got back I opened the door, Chris got down on one knee and proposed. He managed to surprise me after all!

What was your favorite detail?

My favorite detail was the color of my bridesmaid dresses and flowers! I look back on our wedding pictures all of the time and am just blown away by the colors and how bright and beautiful everything was!

Describe your wedding day. Is there a particular moment that remains in your memory most vividly?

Our wedding day turned out to be the most gorgeous day! The day before and the day after were in the 90s and were such hot days for mid-September, but our wedding day was sunny with no clouds in the sky and perfect temperature! The moment that remains in my memory most vividly is when our photographer and videographer pulled us outside to get pictures at sunset. It was one of the only times of the day that it was just Chris and I together and I just love having that time with him.

Tell us about finding your dress.

Anyone who really knows me knows that trying on dresses was not something I was necessarily super excited about. But I ended up going shopping with my mom, mother-in-law, sister-in-law and friend and it turned out to be a great day. I knew going in that I didn't want anything too plain, and also wanted a dress more on the traditional side. Once I tried my dress on I just loved the beading and all of the intricate detail. It fit me so well and I fell in love with it!

How did you decide on your venue? Why was it the perfect choice?

We decided on the venue because we loved how bright the space was and of course, you can't beat the incredible view!! My mom and I had actually read about the new venue before I was engaged and commented on how we hoped it would be done by the time I got married. It was still under construction when we took our tour so we really booked it based on the view of the city and our past experience with Funky's food. It ended up being a perfect choice because the bright interior complemented my bridesmaid dresses and flowers and then the gorgeous chandelier gave me the traditional style that I always wanted.

Best part of being married so far?

The best part of being married so far is getting to spend every single day with my best friend. I love coming home to Chris after work every night and spending all of our weekends together! We had a long-distance relationship for 4 of the 8 years that we dated so finally being together is honestly the best thing ever.
