Gina + Logan’s Elegant Equestrian Wedding Day

Gina describes her Keeneland wedding day as “Elegant Equestrian”. Their wedding stationery features watercolor florals in burgundy and blush, with a hint of gold foil in a dusty rose pocket and dressed with a burgundy satin ribbon. We asked Gina to take a look back at the stationery design process, planning, and her day with us. Wedding Photography by Bradley Quinn. Stationery photos by Poeme.

Tell us a little about you and Logan.

I am from Florence, KY and Logan grew up in Lexington, KY. We both went to UK for college and we just so happened to be next door neighbors in college. We were just very good friends for about 4 years before Logan kissed me on his birthday and we have been together ever since. I knew from the moment we kissed that I would marry him.

Being friends first made being together so easy, there was no "impressing" and "getting to know each other" and at the end of the day, our friendship is the best thing about our relationship. He proposed to me in the park behind the houses we used to live next door to each there to, it was perfect. Now, I'm a cardiothoracic ICU nurse at UK Hospital and Logan is the farm manager and part owner of TaylorMade Farm, a thoroughbred farm in Nicholasville, KY that we live on with our two dogs.

Did you have a strong idea for the design of your wedding stationery prior to your consultation?

I didn't have any idea of what I wanted the stationery to look like nor did I know a lot about that process but I was blown away with the creativeness and the final product. I didn't know designing stationery would be as much fun as it was!

How did you envision the stationery, flowers, cake and decor working together to create a cohesive look?

From the colors of my bridesmaid dresses and my flowers, our stationery complimented those colors and just really tied everything together from the programs, invitations, seating charts and table cards.

How would you describe the overall style of your wedding?

The "theme" of our wedding was Elegant Equestrian, but when picking designs I think "simple and pretty" came to mind a lot.

Describe your wedding day. Is there a particular moment that remains in your memory most vividly?

The only way to describe it is "The Best Day Ever." I couldn't tell you if anything went wrong, it was a freaking blast. We had our ceremony at St Paul Catholic Church, followed by a happy hour and reception at Keeneland. The weather was beautiful, the food (we had fried chicken) was delicious, and the dance floor was never not packed. I'm pretty sure I happy cried/sobbed the entire day. I was so overwhelmed with all the love that was present throughout the whole day.

The moment I remember most was my dad's speech, it was a 3 part toast, champagne for celebration, wine for "abundance” of good wine, and God's blessings (our gospel reading was the Wedding of Cana) and bourbon, because were in Kentucky and is a sign of FUN and really set the tone of the rest of the night, a great party.

What part of the stationery process did you find most interesting and challenging?

The whole process was so interesting, the way they moved flowers and colors to a certain way, changed font on some words and the coloring. Even the envelopes and inserts! There were SO many options, which was probably the most challenging was having to choose. They came out so beautiful and I loved choosing the insert with information. They really listened to me that I wanted everything to be easy to read but draw your attention. I couldn't believe how many compliments we got on our invitations!

How did your love of horses and your connection to Keeneland inform your wedding choices?

Logan was pretty much raised in the horse business, his father is part owner of TaylorMade Farm so Logan grew up there and starting working there in college and has worked his way up to the General Farm Manager at TaylorMade. We actually live on the farm and are completely 360 surrounded by horses! Keeneland has always been special to us, we went there a lot together as friends and have a lot of fun memories there, plus its absolute gorgeous. During the September Sales when we first started dating, we had an event at Keene Barn which is in Keeneland I knew that's exactly where I wanted to have my reception. So sure enough, when the time came, we booked it right away.

Other ways we incorporated the horse business was that we had all the tables named after horses that we admired or that Logan personally took care of. We also did the "Call to Post" that my cousin played on the trumpet for us to get announced. And getting married on June 6th of this year, the Belmont Race was going on so we had TVs airing the races during happy hour!
