Elizabeth + Dave’s Bright Wedding at the American Sign Museum

Elizabeth + Dave were married in an intimate wedding celebration at Cincinnati’s American Sign Museum. The museum’s unique collection offered a fun opportunity to incorporate bright neons, colorful foils, and interesting patterns into the paper details. One of our favorite elements is the hot pink foil skyline and wedding date, a departure from the usual gold and silver foil! The main invitation invited guests to the reception, another departure from tradition, as the ceremony was kept intentionally small. We created a hot pink bordered enclosure card to be included for guests invited to both ceremony and reception. We loved being able to combine unique fonts and patterns inspired by the museum’s historic collection!

Tell us about you and Dave.

Dave grew up in the Columbus area and moved to Cincinnati roughly 7 year ago for work. I was born and raised in Oakley and returned to Cincinnati after college. Dave is a project manager and I work as a nanny. Dave and I are very social people. We enjoy being out exploring the city with our friends. We love to travel, especially to the beach, watch the Columbus blue jackets, play board games, and play with our two dogs Thor and Taco.

Tell us about the proposal.

Dave has always been a fan of board games. It is something that I grew to love while we were dating. On July 5, 2018 Dave and I sat down to play a new board game he had bought specifically for me. What I didn’t know is that Dave has already opened the box and placed the engagement ring inside the board game. He even managed to re-plastic wrap the box. So when I opened up the box and saw the ring I was incredibly surprised. We shared a beautiful moment together then we started calling family and friends to tell them the exciting news.

When we decided on the American Sign Museum as our venue I knew we would be having a unique and colorful wedding. I really wanted as much fun color and neon that we could get. I also knew I wanted pineapples and tropical themes throughout the wedding as well. While these seemed a bit obscure to me when I sat down with Kristen I knew immediately she was going to give me exactly what I had dreamed of...and more. I gave her all of my ideas and she really nailed it more than I could ever say.

How was your everyday style reflected in your wedding day or was it a departure from your usual style?

Dave and I are pretty casual people. We really wanted the wedding to feel more like a fun party than a formal wedding. Having the American Sign Museum as our location helped with keeping a more relaxed and casual feeling.

What advice would you offer to engaged couples?

Just be true to yourself. Speak up and make your voice heard because the only people that matter on that day are you and your fiancé.

Describe your wedding day.

We had a beautiful wedding day. We were married on February 1, 2020. The weather cooperated as much as possible. Dave and I had a private moment together to do our first look then we had a private ceremony at the Sign Museum with just the bridal party and our immediate family. For us, that helped keep the intimate feeling that we hoped to have for our ceremony. Our reception was incredible with delicious food and a fun dj so people were dancing all night. It flew by, just like everyone said it would, but I truly wouldn’t change anything. It really was a great day!

What detail of the wedding did you focus on the most?

The venue really spoke for itself. So that allowed us to focus on some smaller details. Dave and I love the beach and tropical environments. To help show that, we included pineapples into our wedding decor. We used them throughout the venue as decorations. It was a fun way to add a bit of us to the venue.
