Kelsey + Jon's Sonoma County Destination Wedding
Kelsey and Jon met while attending Purdue University where they were both student-athletes and involved in Greek life. They soon realized they had a lot in common and after several years in a long distance relationship, Jon proposed on a rooftop in Spain while they celebrated new beginnings. We asked Kelsey to share a little about their Sonoma County destination wedding at B.R. Cohn Winery and Olive Oil Company. Gorgeous photography by Jonnie + Garrett unless otherwise noted.
Tell us about the proposal.
We had been in a long distant relationship for four years as I was in graduate school and Jon was focusing on his career. We had planned a trip to Spain to celebrate my graduation and upcoming move to California to finally be together. We were at a rooftop bar in Barcelona overlooking the city and Jon asked a couple to take a photo for us then got down on one knee as the photo was being taken. We were all surprised (even the photographer) but they got the shot and it was an incredible moment!
How was your everyday style reflected in your wedding day or was it a departure from your usual style?
We chose a destination wedding in Sonoma. With Jon being from southern California, me being from the Midwest, and both going to college in the Midwest, we had friends and family all over the country! Regardless of where our wedding was we knew most people would have to travel so we wanted to give them an excuse to travel and explore somewhere new (which is one of our favorite things). Our style was semi-casual, minimal, and natural which I think reflects our everyday style.
Tell us a little about you and Jonathan.
I am originally from Cincinnati, OH and am a pediatric audiologist working in Orange County, CA. Jon is originally from Orange County and works at Allergan in sales planning and analytics. We love to be active and outside, ride bikes, go to the beach, try new restaurants, travel, and spend time with family and friends.
What detail of the wedding did you focus on the most?
We definitely focused on the venue. With everyone traveling we wanted to give them a real wine country experience. We wanted an outdoor venue with live music and once we saw the backdrop of the rolling vineyards we were sold!
Tell us about your wedding stationery vision.
I was hoping for a minimal, modern, clean invitation that also set the tone for the whole day. I have to give a lot of credit to my mom and sister who came up with the design details!
