Amy’s Just a Hint of Girly Girl Wedding at Drees Pavilion

Amy describes herself as a total girly-girl, “the more bling, the better!” But when it came to wedding details she wanted to make sure she maintained a look of elegance while still having fun with a bit of glitter and a touch of glam. Her intricate lace motif invitation opens out like a gate and is tied with satin ribbon, finished with a crystal fastener. Her enclosures are backed by glitter stock creating a thin frame of silver that circle back in their silver monogram.

One of our favorite aspects of Amy and Matt’s stationery was their decision to depart from the soft pink and silver of the wedding invitation suite to incorporating bright and bold watercolor florals and a custom monogram. Photography by Kortnee Kate Photography.

Tell us how what inspired your wedding stationery vision?

I am a total girly-girl--the more bling, the better. So I wanted an invitation that had all the flair (bows, lace, bling, glitter--you name it) without looking like a glitzy 13th birthday party invite LOL! I also needed something that wouldn't make Matt roll his eyes. It took some time and a lot of patience on Kristen's end, but what we landed on was so perfect.

How did Matt propose?

Ha! That was a disaster. The thing about Matt is he is so easy to read, and he is a terrible liar. He had been acting weird all day and then made up some phony lie about needing to go to Ault Park. He knew that I knew what was up, so he decided to change plans and take me to Streetside Brewery (where we went on our first date). I knew exactly what was going on, but I tried to play along. By the time we got there, he was so nervous he ended up getting down on both knees to propose haha!

How did you stay within your wedding budget?

We didn't. My parents joked that the word "budget" went out the door a long time ago. I was the first in my family to get married, so I don't think any of us had any idea of quite how much these things cost! We obviously made efforts to cut things that were a little "over the top," but they certainly did not want to cut any corners with making sure everything was elegant and beautiful.

Tell us about finding your dress.

Ok, that was fun! We went to Bridal and Formal, where their dresses are sectioned by budget. Based on our budget, we were told that there was one rack that *might* have a few things, but ultimately it was dubbed the "no-no rack." Mom and I knew if we even went and looked over there, we'd end up picking a dress that was way outside the budget, and we didn't want to get in trouble. So we picked out our 8-10 dresses to try on, and while we were waiting for my dressing room to be set up, we went to *just look* at the no-no rack. I ended up pulling out a dress that was really pretty and...within budget! It wasn't at all the style I thought I would end up in, but we knew the instant I put it on that it was "the one"!

Tell us about your wedding day and what were your favorite details and moments?

What was (and still is) so amazing to me was how many people came together to celebrate you. There was so much love in one room, and it was really special to have our families and friends all together in one room. I felt like the whole night was over in an hour--it was such a blur! But our band really was incredible and helped make it an amazing party. If I had to pick a stand-out moment, it would probably be my father-daughter dance. We decided against the typical slow dance and, with the help of a good friend, surprised everyone with a hilarious choreographed dance to "Dance Like Your Daddy," by Meghan Trainor.

What detail of the wedding did you focus on the most?

We probably spent the most amount of time picking out and designing all of our paper products (invitations, menu cards, programs). A lot of the other things (venue, flowers, favors) were really easy because we knew exactly what we wanted (thanks, Pinterest)!

What is one piece of advice that you could give brides-to-be?

The whole process is a journey, so try to enjoy every moment. If something gets frustrating or stops being fun, stop it for a while and take a step back. Then re-visit it once you have calmed down. As far as the day is concerned, make sure you take a moment during your ceremony to look out into the audience. It really is amazing seeing all of those people and realizing they are all there for YOU. It's a very overwhelming, yet humbling feeling.
