Kelly + Kirby’s Naples Florida Destination Wedding

Just because you are planning a destination wedding doesn’t mean your invitations have to follow a certain design formula or include the flora of your chosen geography. Kelly + Kirby were married in Naples, Florida and wanted to make sure their save the date and invitations conveyed the elegance and formality of their event. They wanted crisp, clean, brilliant, bright white on rich black engraved ink. Kelly also wanted to include gold - fun pops of gold. We used gold boldly in the save the dates in the form of a gold glitter liner that set the tone for a celebration. The invitations were a bit more formal, with a subtle gold.

INTRODUCTIONS

It was a HUGE compliment when Kelly contacted me about creating her wedding invitations. First of all, I had the pleasure of working on both her sister and brother’s weddings in the past. Their family is amazingly kind, and fun, and throw one heck of a wedding!

In addition, Kelly and I had worked together. She was one of the lead coordinators for a local event planner and was always a joy to work with. So with these two relationships in my periphery, I felt extremely grateful that she valued our past experiences and wanted to include them in her and Kirby's big day!

Crisp & Clean

Kelly + Kirby loved black and white and gold. And I mean WHITE. Crisp, clean, brilliant, bright white! A stark contrast to a rich black engraved ink - the deepest black I believe you can achieve in print. And Kelly was not shy about the pops of gold. Bold in the save the dates - a gold glitter liner - this is gonna be a celebration!! A slightly more subdued gold on the invitation - a bit more elegant and feminine.

Did I mention Kelly is a planner? Everything needed to be organized and presented in away that organized the details, and could be put back together beautifully and efficiently - what else?? POCKETS!! I love a well planned pocket - all inserts are apparent, but flow seamlessly from page to page.

It’s a great way to prioritize and separate the different events and associated logistics such as the travel and RSVP contacts. We used a pocket for both the save the date and the invitation. In my opinion, the pocket needs to fade - it is purely function. The save the date pocket resided on the back.

The wedding was destination, but Kelly and Kirby did not want it to feel too “destination” themed. They wanted guests to get a feel for the fact that the black tie wedding was formal, but also surrounded by a series of other weekend soirees that were a bit more “Florida Fun!”

Finally, there are a lot of logistics and arrangements involved when most of the guests are traveling, so in addition to communicating all of these details efficiently and beautifully, both families wanted guests to feel like they would be taken care of the entire weekend.

The travel details were tucked behind and arguably, once viewed and acted upon, could be disposed of while leaving a still beautiful save the date. The invitation was built as the “big reveal” - each insert stacked to disclose the largest and most commemorative card, the invitation. Not to mention, each individual element stood beautifully on its own.

Kelly and Kirby’s stationery ensemble was the perfect blend of practical and pretty. With all of the various elements it never felt disjointed and no insert was a second thought. That’s what happens when you work with a skilled wedding planner, especially if it happens to be the bride or the groom! We were so lucky to work with Kelly and Kirby, and were equally grateful to have just created a darling stationery suite for their first baby’s shower.
