Jen + Pete’s Museum of the City of New York Wedding

Jen + Pete were married at the Museum of the City of New York in Manhattan in a ceremony that was both traditional and true to them as a couple. The bold and striking white on charcoal modern calligraphic script on the escort cards and dinner menu tied the day-of-details together and were the perfect nod to the Museum's contemporary signage.

How would you describe the overall style of your wedding?

Neither my husband nor I are big wedding people. Pomp and circumstance makes us both itchy. So while we worked with our rabbi to craft a ceremony that felt both traditional and true to us, once that was over, we just wanted to throw a big party without any of the trappings of a traditional wedding. When I spoke to vendors, it was more about what we didn't want - nothing stuffy, nothing formal, nothing over the top. We wanted to look back on the day and recognize ourselves in it.

Did you have a strong idea for the design of your wedding stationery prior to your consultation?

I was looking for something simple and clean. We were throwing a non-formal, non-black tie Saturday night wedding in Manhattan and I wanted the invitations to immediately reflect that as much as possible.

What part of the process did you find most interesting - the design, the print process, the etiquette and tradition? What part did you find most challenging?

I really enjoyed designing the invitation, working with the colors and fonts, but my favorite part was choosing a calligrapher to address the envelopes. Kristen guided me towards a calligrapher whose style is more modern and I loved it. We even hired her to do the place cards as well. The most challenging part, I found, of any part of the wedding planning is that no decision is really yours alone. Compromise is key, which can be hard for all parties to remember!

How did your stationery, flowers, cake and decor work together to create a cohesive look?

As my wedding was in New York, where my husband and I live, and my parents are in Cincinnati, we had a combination of vendors from both places. Luckily, all of our vendors were fantastic and the design was simple, so it was easy to create a cohesive look. The flowers were all white and all of the paper products were a charcoal with white text so it was pretty seamless. Of course, our rainbow sprinkle wedding cake stood out, just as I wanted it to!

Thank you so much Jen + Pete for sharing your thoughts and beautiful celebration with us. We wish you a lifetime of happiness together.
